Incident Report Weekly 22/11/2024
Kasselman Security Services
Load shedding will affect security!
Alarms:
With constant power failures, often twice daily in one area, alarm batteries
will start to fail meaning alarms will not be able to send signals. Every time
the power goes out we experience extremely high call volumes. Please call in
with any accidental activations.
If your alarm battery has been in use for more than 6 months we strongly
recommend that you replace it, especially if you are going away.
If you are going away you need a trusted person to regularly check that your
alarm is functioning. Constant load shedding makes the monitoring of power
failures very ineffective as thousands of power failures will occur daily.
Generators:
Generator theft will heavily increase as the re-sale value will increase because
of load shedding. Make sure you use your Generator in a well-ventilated area as
fumes are toxic. Remember to lock it up after use to avoid theft. Never refuel
generator while it is operating and store reserve fuel carefully to avoid a fire
hazard.
Gate Motors:/
Gate motor theft will also increase as their batteries will be sought by many.
Have a secure bracket installed.
Remember to have an alternative access point other than just an electric motor
to your yard.
Gate motor batteries will also start to fail from load shedding, meaning if it
is your only access, emergency services and security won’t be able to enter
should they need to.
Appliances and general safety:
Fridges and other appliances are also feeling the strain of load shedding.
Remember that if your fridge breaks while you are away, all your food will rot.
Have a trusted person check on your appliances while you are away Rather not
stock up on food before leaving.
Storing frozen foods with a trusted person that is not going away is also
advisable.
Candles and lamps pose a fire hazard and there are great alternative light
sources – affordable solar lamps are available and make a great way to keep
light in the home.
Ensure you don’t just rely on cell phone communication as cell towers could also
feel the strain of load shedding. Your neighbour is your closest support, get to
know them and assist each other.

WENKE VIR EIE VEILIGHEID VIR DIE GESIN:
♦ ‘n Ordentlike elektriese heining om jou huis,
gekoppel aan ‘n alarmstelsel.
♦ ‘n Ordentlike alarmstelsel, waarvan BUITE WAARSKUWINGS soos Infra Rooi Strale
♦ Jy MOET gewaarsku kan word as iemand by jou huis is/was terwyl jy weg was, al
!!
spore uitwys !!
♦ Kyk daagliks vir “tekens” soos sigaretstompies, vuurhoutjies, blikke, bottels,
sitplekke, spore, urinering plekke, ontlasting plekke, ens, ens (enigiets uit
plek of vreemd)
♦ As jou honde, veral snags, in ‘n sekere rigting of rigtings blaf, gaan kyk die
volgende dag in daardie rigting(s) vir iets vreemds. Kyk ook by jou hekke of
heining vir urinering kolle of ander “tekens”.
belangrikste – “DIT (‘n aanval) KAN MET JOU GEBEUR, ENIGE TYD EN ENIGE PLEK.
Security tips to follow when going away on holiday:
1. Inform KVD control room(KCR) when going away(account must be paid up to
date).
2. Test the alarm system.(if your alarm is faulty, don’t leave it to the last
minute to request a technician to come out and check your system).
3. Inform KVD control room of any additional key holders staying in your area
for the holidays.(We will need to contact them in the event of an
emergency/gaining access).
4. Suspend newspaper and magazine deliveries.(Ask someone to clear out your
post-box on a regular basis).
5. Ensure that doors/windows are locked/closed to avoid false alarms/safety
reasons. Burglar bar/gates must be locked/intact.
6. Ensure that your housesitter knows how to operate your alarm system. In
addition, forward us your housesitter’s details.
7. Don’t advertise that you are going away.
8. Preferably pack your luggage into your vehicle behind closed garage doors.
9. Do not leave notes on the door, underneath the doormat or in the post box to
indicate that you are away.
10. Provide a keyholder/key for KCR so that the armed reaction can gain entry to
premises.
11. Cut trees/brushes away from alarm beams.
12. If electricity goes off make sure it is restored to prevent alarm from not
working/food from spoiling.
13. Enjoy the holiday.
